Behind the Brand: 5 Things You Didnโt Know About Pirouette Kids Music Books
We make music books for little kidsโbut letโs be honest, Pirouette Kids is just as much for the grown-ups reading (and re-reading) them. If youโve ever hit that sound button one more time because your toddler insists, or caught yourself humming along to Debussy during cleanup, welcome. Youโre in the right place.
Here are five things you probably didnโt know about our brand, our music books, and what really goes into a Pirouette Kids sound book.
1. Weโre not just nursery rhymes (and never will be)
When we say music books, most people think of โTwinkle Twinkleโ on repeat. But at Pirouette Kids, we wanted more (and less of Baby Shark). Our music books introduce real genresโfrom classical and blues to folk and world musicโdesigned for tiny listeners with big curiosity.
Instead of defaulting to the usual suspects, we ask questions like: What if a toddlerโs first intro to classical music was Vivaldiโs โSpringโ? Or their first blues tune was โGoodnight Ireneโ? Turns out, kids love variety. And we love giving it to them.
2. We design for ages 0โ5โno batteries required (kidding, yes, batteries included)
Babies, toddlers, and preschoolers interact with books in totally different ways. So every Pirouette Kids music book is built to engage across ages. Big buttons that are easy for chubby fingers. Durable pages that hold up to snack hands. And music clips that are short enough to keep attention, but rich enough to feel like real listening.
We test everything with real kids (including our own), and we keep an eye on what makes them come back to a book again and again. Spoiler: itโs usually a dancing animal, a fun beat, or that one page they call โthe butterfly oneโ.
3. The songs? Curated like a killer playlist
Nothing random here. Every single track in our music books is carefully chosenโnot just for catchiness, but for cultural richness, musical depth, and play potential.
In our I Discover Classical Music book, we swapped in Clair de Lune (yes, that dreamy Debussy piece from Twilight) because itโs both peaceful and iconic. In our I Discover World Music book, we included La Cucaracha, Tico-Tico no Fubรก, and Tum Balalaikaโsongs from different corners of the globe that open up curiosity and conversation, even with toddlers.
This isnโt just musicโitโs early exposure to culture, rhythm, and storytelling.
4. The Illustrations Are Designed to Delight (and Teach)
We work with incredible illustrators to bring each musical scene to life. Youโll spot human-like animals dancing, playing instruments, and exploring musical worlds.
These arenโt just pretty pagesโtheyโre designed to encourage interaction. Can your child spot the trumpet? How many bees are flying near the flowers in Spring?
This visual engagement supports attention, memory, and vocabulary development.
5. Pirouette Kids is a One-Mom Team
Thatโs rightโevery book, post, and product is powered by one mom on a mission. After years working in early childhood products (and raising two little testers of her own), Sarah launched Pirouette Kids to fill a gap she saw in the market: music books that were actually good.
She picks the songs, works closely with illustrators, handles production, and answers your DMs. Itโs a lotโbut totally worth it.
